The left board shows the timeline for normal fetal brain development; the germinal matrix appears around 8 weeks and disappears around 32 weeks, it is not normally present at birth.
The right board shows how the plaintiff had a persistent germinal matrix at birth, and explains the characteristics of the germinal matrix that make it more prone to hemorrhaging.
